Lois A. Carter April 14, 1926- April 27, 2024
KINGSPORT - Lois Adeline (Hughes) Carter, 98, Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the age of 98.
She passed away at Brookdale Senior Living Rock Springs, Kingsport, TN surrounded by her loving family.
Lois was born in Russell County, VA on April 14, 1926, to Laura Della (Jessee) Hughes and George Washington Hughes.
She loved the Lord and was active in First Baptist Church, Gate City, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and participating in missions. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was especially known for her sour dough bread, entertaining, and being with her family.
In addition to her parents, her husband of 42 years, Ralph Lellon Carter, and her four sisters, and five brothers preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters, Bronwen C. Huff and husband, Curtis Kingsport, TN, and Rebecca C. Johnson, and husband, Dave, grandchildren, Erin Brown and husband, Kemp, and Laura H. Kent and husband, Eric, great grandchildren, Aiden Brown, Avery Brown, Olivia Kent, and Chance Kent, step grandchildren, Tyler Johnson and wife, Monica, Whitney Johnson and husband, Andrew Miller, Theo and Miles Miller, Lindsay Baumgartner and husband, Chris, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. J. David Randolph officiating.
Family Graveside Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon, VA.
The family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Brookdale, Rock Springs, and Gentiva Hospice for their loving care of our precious mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of her favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Rebecca, I never really knew your mother but did meet her a couple of times. I do remember her smile and recognized it in her photo. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this difficult time.
