GATE CITY, VA - Lydia Large Williams, 61 of Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord after a period of declining health on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on August 15, 1964 in Abingdon, VA. Lydia was a longtime member of Midway Memorial United Methodist Church where she served as a pianist and loved her church family. Lydia was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She had a servant's heart and was a marvelous cook. During her nursing career, she touched the lives of everyone who was in her path, co-workers and patients alike

Lydia is preceded in death by her father, Rev. Donald W. Large.

She is survived by her loving husband, William Williams, Jr.; mother, Margaret Maine Large; daughter, Taylor Sutherland; son, Ross Sutherland (Krista); three step sons, Travis Williams (Heather), Dustin Williams and Tristan Williams; grandchildren, Amelia Sutherland, Lance Sutherland, Jon-Ross Sutherland, ArieJo Sutherland; seven step grandchildren; sister, Karen Robertson (Keith); brother, Andrew Large (Shannon); several nieces and nephews; special friends, Marie Wininger, Gerri Johnson, Michele McGlothlin; loving companions, Finn and Sawyer.

A Celebration of her Life will be held at Midway Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 at 6:00 PM. Rev. Gracie Ellis will officiate. The family will receive friends and share memories one hour prior to service.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Midway Memorial UMC Food Bank, 5532 Veterans Memorial Hwy., Gate City, VA 24251.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Indian Path Hospital, ER Staff and the Neurology department of Johnson City Medical Center.

I am so Heartbroken! Lydia always had a huge heart, and she was such a caring soul. We worked together at Gastro Assoc for many years. She also for a long time was my lunch and weekend buddy! I thought the world of this lady, and she will always hold a special place in my heart. I am blessed with many memories to cherish of her. To the family my condolences may you find peace, and prayers for each of you. Taylor and Ross your Mother was an amazing person, and she was so so proud of you both.
