GRAY - Margaret Jean Hamilton, age 81, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, August 11 2025, at Dominion Senior Living in Johnson City, TN where she had suffered the effects of Vascular Dementia for many years after a fall in 2014 but we are thankful it did not steal her sweet spirit. She was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Ira David Elliott and Elsie Debbie Lilley Elliott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life Gentry Walker Hamilton.

Margaret graduated from The Training School (U.H.) in 1962. She obtained her Secretarial degree and certification from East Tennessee State University in 1964. She was a typist in the Business Department at ETSU for several years and worked at Med-Derm Pharmaceuticals. She went onto work at Gray Pharmacy doing bookkeeping and payroll and retired in 2017.

She loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Walnut Christian Church. She started playing piano and organ when she was a teenager and continued to play until last year. She did bookkeeping for the church for many years and also enjoyed providing breakfast for Sunday School. Margaret could never say no to anyone and was a very generous person with her resources and her time. She loved volunteering for many Christian organizations. She was a fabulous baker and was known for her sugar cookies and pies with mile high meringue. Her homemade butter mints were always a hit at any special occasion. She was a lover of all things Christmas and was a lifelong Hallmark collector.

She is survived by her son, Steven Hamilton and wife Amy, and Aaron Hamilton and wife Charity; granddaughters, Millie and Abby Hamilton; one sister, Mary Ann Jobe and husband David; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 15, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM with Minister Mike Luzadder officiating. Committal Service and Interment will follow in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Luke West, Wayne Almany, Earl Cooper and lifelong friends at Walnut Christian Church.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff at Dominion Senior Living where Margaret had resided for the last two years, and especially thank Lydia Ford who went above and beyond in Margaret's care and had become like family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Walnut Christian Church in Johnson City.
