Marilyn Peterson Obituary

Marilyn Florence Peterson, 80, of Manalapan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on February19, 2026 after facing a long illness with strength and grace, just days after celebrating a milestone birthday surrounded by her loving family and dear friends.

Born on February 13, 1946, in Livingston, New Jersey, to Antoinette and Frederick Benedict, Marilyn lived a life defined by devotion to her family and joy in life's simple pleasures.

She resided in Old Bridge, New Jersey for over 30 years, where she worked as a clerk for the Old Bridge Police Department. She was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and witty sense of humor. Ten years ago, she moved to Manalapan where she continued to build cherished friendships and remained close to her family.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Anntoinette and Frederick Benedict, and her beloved sister and "partner in crime," Janice Peterson.

She was the devoted mother of Michael Peterson of North Caldwell, New Jersey; Michelle Szpara of Manalapan, New Jersey; and John Peterson and his wife, Lisa of Bordentown, New Jersey. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Cole, Joseph, Sofia, Owen, Chloe, and Julia, and great-grandmother to Vincenzo.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Linda Benedict, her nephews and their wives, Jason and Kristen Peterson, Christopher and Kelly Peterson, Jonathan and Catalina Benedict, and her great-nieces and nephew, Deana, Alana, Luca, and Mia.

Marilyn found joy in reading a good book, preparing delicious meals for those she loved, playing cards, enjoying a game of bingo, and sharing dinners with her close friends. She delighted in the occasional trip to Atlantic City, but nothing brought her more joy than time spent with her family - whether gathered around the table for Sunday dinner or celebrating life's special moments together.

Viewing and cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held at Old Bridge Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a religious service being held at 4:45 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Marilyn's life.

Marilyn will be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
