Marlin Hammonds Obituary
September 24, 2025
Marlin Jo Hammonds, 59, of Kingsport, TN, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, after a long battle with brain cancer.
Marlin was born in Scott County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Betty Jo Hammonds. Faith was always a part of Marlin's life, and she found a spiritual home at Shades of Grace UMC in Kingsport.
Although life brought many challenges, Marlin was known for her kind heart, her love for others, and her testimony of faith. In her last months, she faced homelessness but was embraced with compassion and friendship by the Shades of Grace community. There she found comfort, fellowship, and a place to belong.
A Memorial Service will be held at Shades of Grace UMC, 313 East Sullivan Street, Kingsport, TN on Saturday, October 4th, 10:30am with Pastor Will Shewey officiating. Music will be provided by Emma Marie Hartsock, David Francis, Oscar Harris, Landon Bellamy and the Shades of Grace Choir.

I don´t know this lady, but reading her obituary was heartbreaking. I want to thank Shades of Grace for opening their door and their heart to this lady, and giving her a place to feel wanted, loved, and cared about. Thank you for a memorial service to remember her. Everyone deserves to feel loved and cared for, and this is what representing Jesus to a lost world looks like. Thank you for caring for those who aren´t always easy to love and care about. We never know when it may be us or a loved one needing that love and compassion shown.
