CAMDEN, SC - Martha Elizabeth Mitchell McCray, age 85, peacefully passed away in her sleep on June 13, 2025, at Karesh Long Term Care in Camden, South Carolina.
Martha was born on July 10, 1939, in Fall Branch, Tennessee, to the late J.D. and Irene Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 65 years, Vernon McCray, and her sister, Peggy Daniel of Fall Branch.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Laura Shields, (husband Scott Shields) of Camden, South Carolina; granddaughters, Adrienne Olanovich (husband Tim), Hannah Shields of Wilmington, NC, and Bethany Tate (husband Austin) of Weaverville, NC; and great-grandchildren, Gabby, Kai, and Hunter Olanovich, and Ashton Tate; sisters, Karen Setser (husband Jackie) of Greenville, TN, Jody Mitchell of Bristol, TN; brother, Duane Mitchell (wife DeAnne) of Fall Branch, TN, along with nieces and nephews.
A devoted follower of Jesus, Martha's life was a testament to her faith. She lovingly served her family, friends, neighbors, church, and community with a generous spirit and a truly caring heart. Her beautiful smile, genuine laugh, and love for life made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
Martha's legacy is one of love, compassion, and steadfast faith, and she will be deeply missed.
Funeral arrangements and a celebration of Martha's life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Blountville, Tennessee. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Strong of Sullivan Baptist Church and Rev. Scott Shields. The family will receive friends following the graveside portion of the service.
