Martha Winegar Obituary

Martha Lucille "Lucy" Winegar

June 3, 1930 -

November 8, 2024

Martha Lucille "Lucy" Winegar, 94, went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2024 surrounded by family and friends after a period of declining health. Lucy was born June 3, 1930 in Blountville, Tennessee to Earl Clarence and Cynthia Ella Clark Harr. She was a lifelong member of Blountville Presbyterian Church.

Lucy will be remembered by her family as a spirited, unique and witty little woman who was an excellent cook, baker and candy maker. She enjoyed fresh flowers, listening to music, watching Heartland, feeding and watching her birds, gardening, mowing, celebrating birthdays (hers and others) with family and friends, and taking care of her little dogs, first Emmett, and then Bo. Phrases she often repeated: "you need to be ready," "might as well do it and get it over with" and "everyone's welcome anytime they want to come."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 63 years, Grove R. Winegar; son, Mark Winegar (Fern); brothers, Clarence Harr (Dot), Willard Harr (Jerrie), Herman Harr (Betty), Dale Harr, and Jerry Harr; sister, Sue Wagner (Fred).

She is survived by her son, Gary Winegar (Mary); daughters, Suzanne Dobbs (Eugene) and Sherry Mumpower (Glen); eight grandchildren, Traci Mitchell (Jerry), Pam Johnson (Terry), Jason Winegar (Cindy), Stephanie Packard (Tyler), David Dobbs (Pam), Rachel Parsons (Josh), Aaron Longworth (Autumn), and Eli Queen; two step-grandchildren, Tanisha Bradley and Gray Mumpower (Mackensey); fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Harr (Vivian); sister, Ann Mays (Charles); sisters-in-law, Virginia Harr and Becky Harr; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 11:00 – 12:30 at East Lawn Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 12:30 with Chaplain Michael Driver officiating; the burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blountville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 424, Blountville, TN 37617.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Lucy's caregiver and friend, Denise McCall and the Smoky Mountain Hospice team, especially Rebecca, LeAnne and Mike for their loving care of Lucy. Special thanks and appreciation to Bob Hodges for keeping Lucy supplied with homemade strawberry jam.
