Marvin Hammond November 19, 1932- May 11, 2024
Marvin Hammond, 91, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Holston Manor Nursing Facility. He was born on November 19, 1932 in Scott County, VA, where he grew up in a family of four children. Marvin was a member of the U.S. Airforce from 1952 - 1956 during the Korean War and then the Airforce Reserves until 1960. He was also a member of the Virginia National Guard from which he retired as Staff Sergeant in 1985. He worked for and retired from the City of Kingsport City Schools.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy or as he lovingly called her "Mama" father and mother, James Howard and Nora Myrtle Hammond; brother, Shelby Hammond.
Survivors include his three daughters, Brenda and Harold Meade, Debera and Tony Manis and Jennifer and Kevin Snook; four grandchildren, Chad and Sarah Meade, Andy and Lisa Meade, Haley and Matt McConnell, Taylor and Jacob Woodward; six great-grandchildren, Avery and Aiden Meade, Camyrn Meade, Liam and Millie Woodward and Brett Baker; sister, Peggy Cloud; brother, Wayne Hammond; niece, Angela Cloud; two nephews, Tim and Roger Hammond; as well as lots of other family and friends.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff at Suncrest Hospice, Jackie, Scott, Vickie, Sheantail, Nate and Gabe for their compassionate care and support.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Mullins officiating and Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Posts 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Chad and Andy Meade, Matt McConnell, Jacob Woodward, Tim and Roger Hammond and John Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association, 3101 Browns Mill Rd., Suite 6, PMB 321, Johnson City, TN 37604.
