Mary Jarrett Obituary

Mary Helton Jarrett

January 11, 2025

KINGSPORT - Mary Helton Jarrett, age 87, of Kingsport, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.

She retired from the Sears Company after 40 plus years of service. Had been a member of West Colonial Hills Baptist Church for more than 30 years, where she was active in her Senior Sunday School Class and in the Choir. She loved to play the piano for her family and tried to teach her grandchildren how to play. Along with her love of the piano, she enjoyed Gospel Music, especially the Gaithers and Elvis Presley. Her other hobbies included working in her flower and vegetable gardens, where she had much luck; cooking and baking and teaching her family those hobbies. Her and her husband shared a love of the outdoors, riding their bikes together whenever they could.

She was preceded in death by her parents: John Isaac Elmer Harkleroad and Ida Lou Johnson Harkleroad, and her husbands: Riley Helton and Reece Jarrett.

Mary leaves behind her children: Teresa (Steve) Ray, Tony Helton and Kristie (Tim) Campbell. Grandchildren: Bradley Scott Hughes, Christopher Lynn (DeAnna) Hughes, Sara Nicole Carroll, Holly Michelle (Andy) Ward, Hillary Ann Helton, Victoria Leigh (Jaron) Harville, Timothy Parker Campbell (Laci Gott) and Maddison Grace Campbell. Great grandchildren: Christopher Ryan, Hunter Hughes, Megan Gibson, Sylas Carroll, Escher Carroll, Xavier Carroll, Makayla Ward, and Isabella Harville. Great great grandchildren: Henry Hughes, Zoey Gibson and Waylon Gibson. And her brother: Kenneth Harkleroad.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, who for the last 3 years allowed Mary to stay in her home. Zee, Tammy, susan, Glenda, Misty and Abby.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan 14, 2025 from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home with funeral services at 1:00 with Pastor Phil Sheaffer officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary's passing. I was priviledged to work with Mary at Sears for many years, first as a fellow employee and later as my boss. She was an exceptional person, and I never saw her lose her temper (which was sometimes easy to do at Sears). I have many wonderful memories of our time together.
She was a very great lady and I was blessed to have known her.
