KINGSPORT - Mary Katherine Sexton, age 66, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, in Kingsport, TN. She was a devoted mother, a beloved Shades of Grace and Oasis community member, and a cherished friend to many.
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, she moved to Kingsport early in her childhood. She was a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and went on to study for her CDA at Northeast State and worked as a teaching assistant at Kingsport City Schools. She worked as the crew training manager for the last 17 years for McDonald's in Lynn Garden. Mary's dedication to her work left a lasting impression on her colleagues, and her McDonald's manager spoke highly of her as exceptional and one of the most dependable employees.
Mary found joy in her spiritual community at Shades of Grace United Methodist Church and Oasis. There, she fostered deep connections with her bible study friends, including Judy Vaughn, Marlene Hudson, Sandy Brown, and many others. Her unwavering faith in the Lord was evident through her participation in church activities, Friday services, Bible studies, and heartfelt prayers with fellow worshipers.
Mary was a true caregiver at heart. She always put her children first and managed to maintain a warm smile through life's difficult challenges.
As a dedicated member of Oasis, Mary embraced every opportunity to engage with the community. She enthusiastically participated in various craft projects, art activities, and games, amassing an impressive ten thousand points in their perks program. Mary was one of Oasis's first members and faithfully attended their classes and programs for the past nine years.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Katie Craver, and her brother, Michael Craver. Left to cherish her memories are her children, Beth Wilkes, Aaron Wilkes, and Dakota Sexton, as well as her brother, David Craver.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at Shades of Grace United Methodist Church (313 E. Sullivan Street, Kingsport, TN) on Sunday, January 21st, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Pastor Will Shewey will officiate the service with special words shared by Amy Renye and Shantell Bogle.
