Matthew Jaynes Obituary

Matthew "Marty" Lyon Jaynes

August 11, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Matthew "Marty" Lyon Jaynes, 72, of Johnson City, TN, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 11, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Greeneville, Tennessee, Marty was the kind of person who could light up any room with his humor and easy smile. He loved to make people laugh, and he had a way of making everyone feel like a close friend. His generous and tender heart was evident in the countless ways he helped others. No matter where he went, he was bound to run into someone he knew and always took time to stop, chat, and share a laugh.

Marty spent 23 years with Arcadia Graphics before following his passion for working with his hands, starting his own carpentry business. He specialized in finished carpentry, tile work, and home remodeling, leaving behind not just beautiful projects, but friendships built along the way. For 24 years, he also served as a TSSAA basketball referee, giving his time to a sport he loved.

Above all, Marty treasured relationships. His presence reminds us of Proverbs 18:24 "A man of many companions..., but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."

He was preceded in death by his father, Roe Jaynes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Kim; sons, Matthew "Matt" Jaynes (Rachel) and Andrew Jaynes; grandchildren, Andie and Emerie; mother, Sylvia Jaynes; and sister, Rebecca Ann Prillaman (Randy).

Family and friends are invited to gather at Trinity Memorial on Monday, August 18, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. to share stories, laughter, and memories as they celebrate Marty's life.

Trinity Memorial Centers Funeral Home (423-723-8177) is honored to serve the family. Online condolences may be shared at www.trinitymemorialcenters.com

Yesterday

I officiated with Marty and he showed me great respect as a female official. One of the hardest games I ever officiated was with him. He went into battle with me time and time again. Of course, we always came out victorious! I am glad to have known him.

I am so sad to hear of Marty's passing. I can't remember not knowing him, as we went all through school together and also grew up in the same church. He was a great friend and so much fun to be with. Mrs. Jaynes and Rebecca Ann, you are both so precious to me, and I pray that you all and the rest of Marty's family will feel the Lord's strong arms around you in the days and weeks ahead. I always loved Marty and I love you all dearly.
