KINGSPORT - Maxie Olene Wampler, 99, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with the Lord 24 days before her 100th birthday on April 8, 2026, at her home in Greer, SC surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Nickelsville, VA on May 2, 1926. She went to school in Nickelsville and married her high school sweetheart, Joe Wampler, on June 30, 1945. She was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, TN. She was a faithful servant of her Lord and was deeply loved by all who knew her. Selfless and generous, she had a giving spirit and a remarkable gift for sewing. She was especially known for expressing her love through the quilts she made for each family member and for many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her siblings: Edith Blackwell, Billy Roberts, and Joyce Jackson.

She is survived by her brother Dennis (Lindell), her 4 children: Karen (Roland) Gabbert, David (Jeanie) Wampler, Linda Jo (Johnny) Roberts, Danny (Suzie) Wampler, and unofficially adopted George (Shirley) Weber; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Nancy Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A graveside service will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. in the Garden of Faith at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, TN 37664, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate her 100th birthday will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street, Gray, TN 37615. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Cedar View Christian School, PO Box 143, Kingsport, TN 37662 or Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Street, Gray, TN 37615.

All arrangements are entrusted to East Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
