KINGSPORT - Nancy Kate McDaniel Davis, 83, Kingsport, went to be with The Lord on Sunday, August 3rd, 2025, with her husband by her side. Nancy was born in Madison County, TN to the late Griff Thomas and Mary Sue Barnett McDaniel; she was the eldest child between herself and her sister, Tommye Sue. Nancy completed her first two years of college at the University of Tennessee- Martin, then transferred to UT- Knoxville where she earned her bachelor's in chemical engineering. After graduation she accepted her first engineering position with Dupont in Old Hickory, TN. Nancy married Mr. Leonard P. Davis in 1966 at Clover Creek Baptist Church; they went on to spend 58 wonderful years together. The couple planted roots in Kingsport during the summer of 1967. Nancy attended ETSU and became certified in education to teach science and math at the secondary level. She completed her student teaching at Dobyns-Bennett High School and worked as a science lab technician there. After the births of her two sons, Nancy became a dedicated home maker; caring for her family was the most important job to her. Over the years she was involved in many church activities such as Christian Women's Club, Bible studies and ringing handbells which she played for over 35 years. Both Nancy and her husband, Leonard, taught adult Sunday school classes at First Baptist Church for 21 years. She was a current member of Indian Springs Baptist Church since 1995. In addition to voluntary food service ministry to her church and teaching Women's Bible Study Classes, Nancy was able to enjoy times of devotional Bible Study, reading, and tending to her garden, where she had grown various fruits and vegetables for her family and others for over 50 years.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Griff Thomas and Mary Sue Barnett McDaniel.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Leonard P. Davis; sons, Byron Davis (Amy) and Brent Davis (Lisa); grandchildren, Jackson and Elijah Davis and Luke and Quinn Davis; sister, Tommye Sue Chesney (Phillip) and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Family will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Indian Springs Baptist Church 214 Hill Rd Kingsport, TN 37664. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Aaron Rayburn.
