KINGSPORT - Nancy Carpenter Dyer (83) died Saturday, March 9, 2024, at The Waters of Kingsport, Kingsport, TN. Nancy was born in Worcester, MA, on November 5, 1940, and grew up in East Douglas, Massachusetts. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) School of Nursing in 1961 and spent the next 5 years in nursing at MGH, St. Louis Maternity Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospital (St Louis, MO).
She came to Kingsport in 1975 when her husband, Mills, joined Eastman Kodak Company. She was a volunteer in the Kingsport Head Start Program and has been active in Bible Study Fellowship and in several positions at Kingsport Community Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dr. W. Mills Dyer, Jr.; daughters Dr. Patricia Bruininks (and husband James) of Spokane, WA, and Allison Dyer of Kingsport; two grandsons C.J. Bruininks (and wife Chelsea) of Conway, AR, and Gabe Bruininks (and wife Trisha) of Spokane; great-granddaughters Nora and Lucy Bruininks of Spokane; and sisters Sally Ballou and Carol Swallow of East Douglas, MA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lincoln Carpenter, Sr, and Wibbie Kortecamp Carpenter, brother Walter L. Carpenter, Jr. and sister Barbara Gjeltema.
A memorial service will be held at Kingsport Community Church on March 18 at 7:00 PM. The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 PM.
