Hampton,
Paul Plasted, 67, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2025. Born in Cherwell Bank, Oxfordshire, England, on March 24th, 1958, Paul came to the United States for the first time in 1962, then moved here permanently in 1968. He had been a resident of the Peninsula since 1970. He attended Kecoughtan High School, later going on to earn his GED. Paul became a naturalized U.S. citizen as an adult and was very proud to be a part of this country. He worked for Marva Maid, Sysco, Lance, and most recently, Driveline Retail Merchandising as a Master Merchandiser.
Paul was a beloved son, brother, and friend. He was a free spirit who cherished family and friends over material things. He was kind and generous and would help anyone in need. He most recently resided with his mother, where he made sure she ate well and laughed often. They purchased a Blackstone grill together on which Paul prepared meals for them both to enjoy. On the night before his passing he texted the family (something he rarely did), sharing a photo of a grill filled with ten chicken thighs and four vegetable kabobs with the caption, “Mom cooking for two”. We all got a good laugh and happy conversation out of that, not knowing that it would be our last. Paul loved to be outdoors, especially around a campfire. If you were looking for him at a campground, you could just follow the smoke. He enthusiastically tended Mom’s front garden as if it were his own, adding new plants wherever she pointed and pulling weeds to keep it up to their standards. Paul loved children, and although he never had any of his own, he could be counted on to entertain the many nieces, nephews, and friends’ children who were lucky enough to know him. The kids always had a blast even though their parents would often chuckle and say, “Uncle Paul let you do what”?
Paul is survived by his mother, Dorothy M. Ferguson, siblings, David Plasted, Donna Shahan, Richard Ferguson, Cathy Pedigo and Thomas Ferguson, and countless nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife and dear friend, Deborah Aman Plasted. He is preceded in death by his father, Peter Norman Plasted, who died before his birth and whom he will meet for the first time in the afterlife; his stepfather, Otto N. Ferguson, who was the only father he ever knew; and his sister, Carolyn Plasted.
Visitation will be at the home of Dorothy from 12:00-2:00 PM on Saturday, September 13th. For directions, please contact a member of the family. Arrangements are by Berceuse Funeral and Cremations in Hampton, 757-825-8070.

Paul was such a sweet guy. He knew how to make camping trips memorable with a lot of laughs and antics. My husband and Paul worked together many years ago and that’s how we came to know him, David, Tommy. Our deepest condolences to family and friends.

Paul was such a kind and patient presence in Brianna’s life, always making time to play, build blocks, feed the fish—or simply do whatever brought her joy in the moment. His gentle way of being with her spoke volumes about the kind of person he was: warm, generous, and truly special.
Paul made a real difference, not just in Brianna’s days, but in her heart. Please know that we’re holding you in our thoughts during this time, and remembering Paul with deep gratitude and affection.
