Peggy Carico Obituary

Peggy Bussell Carico March 30, 2024 KINGSPORT - Peggy Bussell Carico, age 90, of Kingsport, Tennessee met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Peggy lived in the Stanley Valley Area of Scott County, Virginia for the first 18 years of her life and lived in Kingsport for the remainder of her life. She graduated from Dobyns Bennett in the Class of 1951. Peggy worked several jobs early in her life, among them Oakwood Markets, Sullivan County Clerk, and a Dobyns Bennett Teacher's Aide. She began work at Eastman Chemical Company as a Field Marketing Assistant in 1972 and retired in 1997 after 25 years' service.

Peggy was saved at a very young age and attended several churches over her lifetime including Valley Center United Methodist Church, Lynn Garden Baptist Church. She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church for over 40 years.

She was a loving mother who made sure that her family was provided with everything they needed to make it in life. Peggy made sure that her sons went to church and learned to love Jesus Christ like she did. She also made sure they learned the values and same work ethic that she and their father exhibited. Peggy would do without herself to make sure her sons had everything they needed. Peggy loved her family dearly and was extremely close to her sister, Mary Neil Bussell, brother Neal and Sandra Bussell and daughter-in-law, Vicki Carico.

Peggy was preceded in death by parents, Neal J. and Eva Haynes Bussell; son, Anthony Duke Carico; brother, Benny J. Bussell; and former husband, Ronald W. Carico.

She is survived by her son, Michael Carico (Vicki); sister, Mary Neil Bussell; brother, Neal Bussell (Sandra); daughter-in-law, Jane Ann Carico; grandchildren, Brandon Carico (Cybill), Mackenzie Schodowski (Ben), Eric Carico, Sara Carico Arnold (Jeremy), Amber Hutchins, Joshua Hutchins; great-grandchildren, Ireland, Lincoln, Raylan, Nora, Willow, and Brody; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff of Brookdale Colonial Heights and Smokey Mountain Hospice for the loving care they provided for Peggy and her family over the final three years of her life. They cared for Peggy like she was family.

Dementia is a cruel and unforgiving disease. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dementia and Alzheimer's research. Hopefully, one day in the future, all families might be spared this cruel disease.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral Service to follow at 1:00pm with Dr. William Randall Frye officiating. A graveside service will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
