Phillip Crowder Obituary

Phillip Deaton Crowder

August 9, 1951 -

February 5, 2025

Phillip Deaton Crowder, 73, of Concord, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2025 in Concord.

Phillip was born August 9, 1951 in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late Herschell Deaton Crowder and the late Cynthia Pauline Crowder.

He was also preceded in death by son, Matthew Deaton Crowder.

Phil spent a good portion of his life doing one of the things he loved most, which was traveling, and being able to witness all that God had created in the world around him. Phil was a very sweet, down to earth man who was extremely selfless and generous in giving to others. He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. Phil valued both family and familial connections; such as his neighbor, Thomas, who he held close to his heart. Phil was an avid NASCAR fan and dedicated his Sunday's to watching the race. Above all, Phil will be remembered for the love he held for his family, for being a loving Papaw, and for always being a kind friend.

Survivors include daughter, Jessie Napoli; grandchildren, Maria Napoli and Paul Napoli; sister, Martha Duncan and her husband, Dr. Ronald Duncan; his nieces and nephews; and his neighbor, Thomas Kimball.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Crowder family.

My brother, Phil, passed away one year ago tomorrow. We did not share a lot of time together over the years, since I married in 1966 and moved away from Kingsport, our home. We loved each other as brother and sister, talking by phone occasionally. To me, Phil lived a life of continual trials and disappointment. Outside of family, those he cared for and trusted took advantage of his caring nature. The bright spots in his troubled life were Jessie and Matthew, Maria and Paul. I have always regretted that he did not have many joyful moments to celebrate in life; and yet, he took the high road as he dealt with those who took advantage of him showing mercy and love, continually giving away most of what he had, never fighting to keep it. He is celebrating now with those who loved him so much...our mom, dad, and his son, Matthew. God knows him by name and will deal with all of the wrongs done to my brother. I love you, Phil, and know you are finally at peace.... Your sister, Martha

Phil was a kindhearted gentle soul. He would tell me his purpose in life was to have children. Two wonderful children we had together, he so cherished then. Phil would provide to them selflessly. Phil found his place in life traveling by driving OTR. He was a phone call away but was there to listen in the most painful time in our life and supportive in college years and beyond. Our last nightly talk was to say Merry Christmas. Now I say, well done as your purpose in life was fulfilled as our beautiful daughter will carry on a part of you. Love you always.
