Dr. Robert Edwards Northrop January 2, 1931 - April 20, 2024
Robert E. Northrop, 93, of Kingsport, Tennessee died at Holston Valley Medical Center surrounded by loving family on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
He was born in Kingsport on January 2, 1931 to Dennis and Alice Northrop. Bob graduated from Dobyns-Bennett before attending the US Naval Academy then later attended medical school at UT Memphis. He returned to Kingsport in 1966 and started his pediatric practice to serve the children of this area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Edith Hildebrand.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jo D. Northrop; daughters, Ann Mingus (Steve), Kris Vaughn (Terry), and Susan Carty (Charles); son, Dr. Robert C. Northrop (Tammy); ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at First Broad Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

My sincere condolences to the Northrop family. Dr. Northrop was my pediatrician back in the day. He diagnosed a very serious condition that I had at only 6 weeks old that could have killed me. He helped save my life and I am forever grateful to him.
