Roger DeMik Obituary

July 29, 1944 – November 16, 2023

ALEXANDRIA, VA - Roger Lynn DeMik, 79, of Alexandria, Virginia, died on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Annandale, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Evans DeMik; sons Evan D. DeMik and Stephen D. Demik; grandchildren Shyela M. and Tennyson S. Demik-Dahlgren; sister Janice Hensley; three nephews and one niece along with grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Roger deeply loved his family as a husband, father, and grandfather; as an in-law he enthusiastically joined and cherished the Evans Family Clan.

Roger was born July 29, 1944 in Arlington, Virginia and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1962. He received a BS in Business Administration from The University of Richmond, followed by a JD from Richmond, and later an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. After Wharton, he worked as an attorney at Heinz Corporation's Headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before settling in Kingsport, Tennessee where he was an in-house counsel for Eastman Kodak Chemical Company. 2003 saw a "first" retirement as Senior Counsel after 27 years with Eastman. He engaged independent legal work for several years thereafter as a plaintiff's lawyer, concluding with a "final" retirement in 2010.

Roger was a curious fellow who pursued numerous lifelong interests that ranged from American Civil War naval history to stock analysis to Subway sandwiches to travel. Roger adored household pets, especially dog and cat duos. He was a gifted storyteller who relished recounting narratives, often ending with a wink of his striking azure eyes.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 in The Renwick Chapel at Oak Hill Cemetery at 3001 R Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20007 with burial onsite.
