CHURCH HILL - Ronald Glen Carter, 88, of Church Hill went to be home with the Lord on Sunday morning (May 26, 2024) at his home.
He was born in Scott County, Virginia. He married Ruth, the love of his life after a whirlwind courtship in 1957. Afterwards, he served his country while stationed in Germany with the 8th Artillery Division along with his twin brother, Donald. Upon his return, he rejoined Bays Mountain Construction and eventually retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He and Ruth made a home in Stanley Valley for the remainder of their lives where he was an avid farmer and tractor collector. In the Okolona community, it was known he could repair most anything or had the part, piece, or bolt needed for many projects. He was an engineer proven through the inventions and work arounds present on his farm even though he had no formal degree. His determination, dedication, and persistence in problem solving shines through in children and grandchildren. He was actively "piddling" until his final days.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Cox Carter; his father, Theodore Roosevelt Carter; mother, Maude Pierson Carter; a second mother, Helen Calhoun Carter, brother, Henry Wallace Carter; and a great-grandson, Jameson Noel Carter.
Ronald is survived by his sons, Randy J. Carter (Angela) and Russell A. Carter; daughter, Rhonda Moles (Jason); 4 grandsons ; 3 granddaughters; 2 great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. Also survived by his brothers, Billy J. Carter and his fiancé, Bea, Donald Carter, Cecil Carter and his wife, Jean; Kenneth Carter and his wife, Maxine; his sister, Deloris Stacy and her husband, Tom ; his farming and special project collaborator; nephew Rick Cox and his wife Jen plus a host of other nieces & nephews, and many dear friends including Dan Thacker who worked side by side Ronald on the farm and beyond.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Thursday, 30-May-2024 at Okolona United Methodist Church, 4215 Stanley Valley Road, Church Hill, TN.
A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at the church with Pastors Greg Fletcher, Larry Anderson and Mike Webb officiating.
Burial will follow in Lane Cemetery, 752 Mt Zion Road, Church Hill, TN. Pallbearers will be Randy J. Carter, Russell A. Carter, Glen Carter, John J. Carter, Esteban A. Carter, and Jason Moles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Okolona United Methodist Church, c/o, Kathleen Ford 813 Greene St. Church Hill TN 37642.
