Rufus W. "Dick" Miller passed quietly May 29, 2023 after a long battle with dementia.
He was 93 years old. Dick was born March 15, 1930 as one of six children to Fred and Velen (Woody) Miller.
He grew up in Laurel Springs, NC where he met and married his life partner Betty. They spent their early years of marriage working for the National Park Concessions, living in several states throughout the country. In 1955, they moved to Tri-Cities Tennessee where he and Betty raised their family, and he began his career with Piedmont Airlines where he worked until retirement. Along with love of family, he enjoyed many passions including fishing, gardening, and travel. Dick, or "Dickie" as he was known at Miller's Campground (where he and Betty spent summers during retirement), was generous to a fault, always with a smile and howdy to all. He never met a stranger, never left a guest unfed, and made the best biscuits and gravy you ever had.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty, brothers Wade, Dean, Don, and Dwayne. He is survived by his sister Barbara Jane Hendrix (Roger) of Sparta NC, daughter Patti Miller of Jefferson NC and her two daughters Jessica and Jennifer Newhart, sons Randy Miller (Rebecca) of Walnut Cove NC and their daughter Katie and Craig Miller of Laurel Springs NC along with many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to honor the life of Dickie at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Laurel Fork Presbyterian Church with Reverend Tom Miller and Reverend Jeffrey Bumgarner officiating. Interment will follow at Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Laurel Fork Presbyterian Church, PO Box 5, Laurel Springs, NC 28644.

So sorry for your loss. I worked many hours besides Dick at Piedmont and it was always enjoyable. I enjoyed visiting his and Betty's gift shop in the TRI airport.
