Sammy Gillenwater Obituary

GATE CITY - Sammy Richard Gillenwater, 72, Gate City, VA, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, at his residence.

Sammy was born in Kingsport, TN, on January 19, 1951, to the late Emerson Gillenwater, and Margie (Presley) Gillenwater.

He was a member of Pleasant View Church.

In addition to his parents, his sister, Betty Bitting; and brothers, Clayton Gillenwater, Jackie Gillenwater, and infant, Leland Gillenwater preceded him in death.

Left to cherish his memory are sisters, Gency Lou Gillenwater, and Barbara Fitzpatrick (George); brothers, Darrell Gillenwater, Dwight Wayne Gillenwater, Michael A. (Jennifer) Gillenwater, Dennis K. (Tina) Gillenwater; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends from 1-2p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Stallard Family Church Cemetery, Fort Blackmore. VA. Services will be conducted at 2:00p.m., with Rev. Wayne Stallard and Rev. Gene Stallard officiating. Janice Herron and Jennifer Gillenwater will provide the music.

Graveside services will follow at the Stallard Cemetery, Fort Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gate City Funeral Home, to help with funeral expenses.
