Sandra Hodge Obituary

Sandra Hodge

September 25, 1939 -

May 26, 2025

PINEY FLATS - Sandra Hodge, 85, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, May 26, 2025.

Born on September 25, 1939, in Dr. Cole's house on Allison Road, Sandra spent her life just across the street from her birthplace. She attended Mary Hughes School from first grade through high school, later returning to the same school as a beloved middle school English teacher. Sandra also served as cheerleading sponsor and yearbook advisor. A devoted supporter of Mary Hughes athletics, she was the school's most enthusiastic fan across all age levels.

A lifelong member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church, Sandra was known for her hospitality and her heart for service. She loved hosting-whether it was family dinners, lake lunches, boat rides with friends, holiday gatherings, or many, many church picnics.

An avid sports fan, Sandra followed the Lady Vols, Tennessee Vols, ETSU Bucs, East High Patriots, and Mary Hughes Lions. Her desk, affectionately nicknamed "Sports Center," was surrounded by newspapers, radios, TVs, computer, and schedules.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Emily Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bill Hodge; son, Brett Hodge (Kelly); grandchildren, Bailey Hodge (Carley), Ben Bowman, and Emma Bowman; great-grandchildren, Opal and William Hodge; brothers, Leon Johnson (Elane) and Teddy Johnson (Linda); cousin and dear friend, Keitha Cross; nieces, Kelly Painter, Robyn Ivester, and Karol Vaughn; and many extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:00–2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Piney Flats United Methodist Church. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m., led by Dr. Paul Humphrey. Interment will follow at Shell Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Piney Flats United Methodist Church.

She was my English teacher when I went to Mary Hughes. She was always a very kind person and a good teacher.

Sandra always made us feel like family and treated us so well. One of our favorite memories was at the lake house and Robin fell off the dock and lost her shoe and when the lake went down in the fall Bill and Sandra got it and called us to tell us they had found it. We laughed about that for years. She will be missed by Robin and I. God´s grace and peace for Bill, Brett and the entire family.
