Sara Peacock November 8, 1959 - August 23, 2024
COLUMBIA, SC - Sara Ann Peacock, 64 of Columbia, S.C., died on Friday, August 23, 2024. Born in Kingsport, Tenn., on November 8, 1959, she was one of three daughters of the late Andrew J. and Ann Fulton Peacock.
Ms. Peacock grew up in Tennessee with her two older sisters. Her family moved to Columbia in 1969. Ms. Peacock attended the University of South Carolina and Columbia College, graduating with a degree in Education - Special Ed.
Ms. Peacock's teaching career spanned more than 40 years in public schools in both Greenville, S.C. and Columbia. Later she was trained in the Montessori method and spent the last 15 years of her career in Montessori teaching until she retired. She traveled to China and spent a semester teaching English there.
Alongside her career, Ms. Peacock taught second grade Sunday School for more than 10 years at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Northeast Columbia. She served as codirector of accreditation for sailing in the 1996 Olympics in Savannah, Ga. Ms. Peacock was an avid college football fan, following both the Clemson Tigers and Auburn Tigers.
Survivors include her sisters, Drea Bender (Mark) and Carol Braddock (Mike); nephews, Christopher Bender (Miranda) and Scott Bender (Sarah) and niece, Katie Rabon (Matt).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Michael V. Legg.
Services for Ms. Peacock will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, 125 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, S.C. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.

Sara and I met at Spring Valley High School and spent many hours together in various activities. She always had a funny comeback and kept us on our toes. Her smile and love for others were infectious. I am blessed to have known Sara and am thankful for the fun high school memories.
