October 10, 2024

Sharon Lee (Carter) Cyphers, 83, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, in Asheville, NC. Born in Bristol, TN, she was a devoted wife and mother, whose kindness deeply impacted everyone around her.

Sharon was the beloved wife of Arvil Boyd Cyphers, Jr., with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of travel, laughter and cherished memories. She was a dedicated mother to her three children, Scottie and Chris Rogers and Tonya Cyphers Bennert, who were her greatest sources of pride and joy. She cherished her role as wife and mother, and took great pride in all of her family members.

Sharon was known for her caring nature and passion for helping others - always there to support family and friends. She derived great joy from her love of animals, gardening, creating a welcoming home where all felt loved and appreciated and hosting family and friends for poolside gatherings and family reunions.

Always ready for an adventure, Sharon, Boyd, Chris and Tonya traveled extensively, enjoying family vacations in their RV, whether the sunny beaches of the East Coast and Florida, the mountains of the West, international travel or vacation cruises.

Sharon was well known in the Tri-Cities community and took great pride in her career as an optician at Eastman, Lens Crafters, other retailers and doctor's offices. She always went above and beyond to give special attention to patients, and even traveled to Haiti to assist in setting up an eye clinic, which provided eye care to those in need.

Sharon was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and showed loved by supporting and caring for others in the congregation. Her kindness and strength were truly inspiring.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Arvil Boyd Cyphers, Jr.; daughter, Tonya Cyphers Bennert (husband David); sisters, Alma Lilly (husband Stephen), and Linda Lilly (husband Joe); brothers, Gilbert Carter (wife Kay), Marvin Carter, (wife Mary); one niece and 13 nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons Scottie Rogers and Chris Rogers; parents, Guy and Ruth Carter; sister, Rebecca Taylor; and brother, Ronald Carter.

Sharon was a gift to me at Julian Woods. She had uncommon sensitivity. I did not know her long, but I know our friendship would have grown. What a kind person. I wish her family strength and courage as you navigate this very difficult time.
