Shelby Begley Obituary

Shelby Jean Davidson Begley

December 21, 2025

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. ~ 2 Timothy 4:7-8, KJV

Shelby Jean Davidson Begley went to be with Jesus on December 21, 2025, after a long struggle of declining health.

The youngest of her family, she was also the last surviving one; she was preceded in death by her father and mother, Alva Burgess Clyde Davidson and Virgie Davidson; brothers, Herbert, Paul, Everett, John A, Burgess (Bowse), and Dwight; sisters, Alberta (Bert) Snapp, Edith Ketron, and Mary (Bunny) Larkins; and her loving husband of 64 years, G.C. Begley.

She is survived by her loving son and daughter in law, Steve and Tammy Begley; grandchildren, Amanda Burton and Justin Greer; great-grandchildren, Addeson Webb, Caeden Webb, and Stella Greer; brother in law, Royce Begley (Euna Mae); sisters-in-law Minnie Davidson, Elsie Begley, Edna Churchwell, Faye Calhoun, Joyce Begley, a boatload of nieces and nephews; her faithful dog of 11 years, Blue; many special friends including Carmen and Andy Wilson and Alan Mahaffey, who she loved playing music with. She loved to hear Andy "toot his horn" and Alan's playing of piano brought her great joy, and Becky Johnson, her long-time caregiver and friend to Shelby during this time.

She was the pianist for many years at Liberty Hill Evangelical Methodist Church and Valley View Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to play and sing praises to God and really enjoyed listening to others do so as well. She played piano for many years at the Church Hill Senior Citizens Center. She loved gardening and had one heck of a green thumb and often shared her vegetables. She retired from Eastman Chemical Company.

We wish to thank her caregivers for their compassion and care during this time, as well as the staff of Amedisys hospice, especially Megan and Sheantail, for their assistance and loving care.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday, December 26, 2025, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 27, 2025, at Valley View Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession.
