KINGSPORT - T. Vernon McCray, 88, of Kingsport, TN, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2024. He was born in Sullivan County on July 10, 1935, as the son of Newt and Grace McCray, and married Martha Mithcell McCray in 1959. Vernon was an employee of Eastman for 43 years and he also served as music director throughout the tri-cities area. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who lived a life of service to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and several brothers and sisters.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Martha Mitchell McCray; one daughter, Laura Shields and husband Scott; three granddaughters, Adrienne Shields and husband Tim Olanovich, Hannah Shields, and Bethany Tate and husband Austin; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Ballard and Kai Olanovich; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Blountville, with Pastor Jeff Strong officiating.
Burial will follow at Hamlett-Dobson Memorial Park, Blountville.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
