NICKELSVILLE - Tommy Ray Darnell, Sr., 74, passed away, Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Nova Health.
Tommy was born in Sullivan County, TN, August 9, 1949, to the late James Cossie and Claire Gladys Christian Darnell.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many.
Preceding him in death is his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Ann (Summey) Darnell; son, Tommy Ray Darnell, Jr.; granddaughter, Walanda Darnell; and brothers Jim and Edgar (Bud) Darnell, Bob Ervin, Bill Ervin, Roy Darnell, and Donnie Darnell, and sisters, Juanita Summey, Ruby Bzowey, and Verda Frazier.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Catherine Dorton (Michael), Gate City, VA; and Debra Darnell, Johnson City, TN; sons, Dustin Darnell (Lekisha), Nickelsville, VA, and Robert Darnell (Jennifer), Fort Blackmore, VA; sister, Barbara (Melvin) Smith, Beckley, WV; daughter-in-law, Donna Darnell; sisters-in-law, Ada Darnell and Nina Darnell; grandchildren, Nathan Alley, Robbie Darnell, Logan Alley, Shiloah Darnell, Jacob Dorton, Emma Darnell, Sean Butler, Camryn Darnell; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Mike Ervin officiating. Mickey and Nikki Summey will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00a.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the Begley Cemetery, Fort Blackmore, VA. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Cemetery at 10:45a.m., for the graveside service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
