WEBER CITY, VA -Violet Dockery Quillen, 91, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 8, 2024. She passed away at home with her loving sons by her side after a battle with lymphoma. A lifelong resident of Scott County, she was a member of Salley's Chapel Church. Violet devoted her life to caring for family: her husband and children, her parents, her in-laws, and finally her beloved grandchildren. She loved all children, flowers, and gardens, and had endless patience with them.
Her husband, Compton Mack Quillen, preceded her in death, as well as her parents Will and Julie Lane Dockery, her brother Willie H. Dockery, Sr., and two infant brothers. She is survived by her sons Jimmy Gale Quillen and Gary Mac Quillen (Rita), grandsons Zeke Quillen and Teague Quillen, and granddaughter Kelsey Quillen Goodwin (Jim), great-grandson Finn, and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family is so grateful for the loving care provided by niece Marietta Dockery Osborne in Violet's last days, and for the support of all the nurses and other staff of Elite Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, Violet requested that people who wish to honor her memory donate to her favorite charities, which she had supported by monthly donations for many years: Shriner's Children's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607-1460, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at Holston View Cemetery on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 2 pm., conducted by ministers Brother Samuel Newland and Brother George Lane. Everyone planning to attend are asked to meet at 1:15 pm at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
