Born on July 17, 1970, to Brenda Jefferson Scott Foster and Milton Jackson (Dellene), Derrick was the eldest of his mother’s seven children: Ayana (Charles), Tawanda (Jumoke), Karli, Akil, Christina, and Anbreanna. Also, the eldest of his father’s children: Delta and Tara. His brother by heart was Roderick “Fatty” Lucas. From the beginning, he carried the pride and responsibility of being the eldest sibling with grace, humor, and quiet strength.
Derrick learned many of his well-known talents from his grandparents, Mose and Angeline Jefferson, who instilled in him the values of hard work, family, and faith. He mastered skills that became his trademarks, working on cars and homes, and cooking meals that brought loved ones together.
Throughout his life, Derrick’s career was as diverse as the places he called home. He lived and worked in cities across the country, always leaving a lasting impression through his dedication, resilience, and strong work ethic. No matter where life took him, Derrick’s warm spirit, quick wit, and ability to connect with others left those around him better for having known him.
He was a brother who led by example, a son who honored his roots, and a man who embraced life’s changes with courage and curiosity.
Derrick was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, parents, along with several beloved aunts and uncles.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Derrick’s daughter, siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Rest in peace, Derrick.
Your journey continues through the love you shared and the lives you touched.
