STRASBURG, VA - Whitney Paige Shelton passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026, at her residence in Strasburg, Virginia, following a battle with Inherited Auditory and Peripheral Neuropathy.

Whitney was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, on May 5, 1975, the daughter of Alice Taylor Shelton and the late Honorable Albert "Mack" McGarvey Shelton.

A dedicated student and accomplished professional, Whitney was a graduate of Gate City High School. She continued her education at Mary Washington College, where she majored in historic preservation and political science. In 1997, she was selected as one of only 42 students for inclusion in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, an honor recognizing outstanding academic achievement, leadership, community service, and potential for continued success. During her time at Mary Washington, she was an active and engaged campus leader, serving on the Honor Council from her first year and later as Honor Council Secretary. She was also involved in student government, a member of the Young Democrats, a resident assistant, a member of the Historic Preservation Club, and a guide for the admissions office. She later earned her Juris Doctor from the Appalachian School of Law.

Whitney was employed as a Legal Administrative Specialist in the Management Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Winchester, VA. She also served as a Federal Law Clerk for U. S. District Judge Glen M. Williams, Abingdon, VA.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, James Logan Shelton, Jr. and Nancy Bess Watkins Shelton, and her maternal grandparents, Isaac Taylor and Louetta Good Taylor.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Lee Baker; her mother, Alice Taylor Shelton; her sister, Ashley Taylor Shelton and husband Paul Moretti; her brothers, James Logan Shelton III and Andrew Todd Shelton; and her nephew, Brooks Hamilton Moretti.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2026, at the Gate City Funeral Home, in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel.

A celebration of Whitney's life will be conducted at 3:00pm. A eulogy will be delivered by her longtime friend and classmate, Scotty Vermillion. Music will be provided by Josh Moody

Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Vermillion, Chris Repass, Kevin Repass, Dale Byrd, Jamie Shelton, and Andy Shelton.
