Eddie D. Martin September 24, 1925 - August 17, 2024
KINGSPORT - Eddie D. Martin, age 98, of Kingsport, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of Saturday August 17, 2024 at his home after a brief period of declining health.
Eddie was born to the late Edgar Martin and Rosa Barton Martin on September 24, 1925 in Lumberton, N.C.
Eddie was a proud and faithful American serving his country during WWII with the U.S Navy. Eddie was a torpedo man 3rd class serving on the submarine USS Manta.
Eddie married his best friend and soulmate Alma Peters Wood Martin on December 07, 1973 and they recently celebrated 50 yrs of blissful marriage.
Eddie was employed at Eastman Kodak in Kingsport for over 34 years working as a Lab Technician in the Medical Department. Eddie retired on April 01, 1986. Always the jokester Eddie roamed the halls of B-215 (then H.R. and Medical) playing the classic "Take this job and shove it" by Johnny Paycheck on his boombox.
Eddie was a trusted, loyal and dedicated member of the First Christian Church in downtown Kingsport for well over 50 years.
Eddie served as Deacon and Treasurer for many of those years.
Eddie was a master of most anything that truly interested him, including: professional photographer where he photographed numerous weddings, graduations, proms, etc.
A marksman with a bow, pistol and rifle where he won many trophies and plaques.
Seamstress, yes you read that right seamstress! He made his own suits for years, mainly in the 1970's and 1980's. Most of these were Polyester as it was the early disco years.
Avid golfer, Eddie loved to play golf with his buddies at Warriors Path and did so until his health would no longer allow. He even had a rare double eagle on hole #6 on August 14, 2000.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his beloved wife Alma Wood Martin on March 13, 2024. His half-sister Trulie Mae Thomas Chance of Roberson County, N.C. and a stepson Mark R. Wood.
This left to cherish Eddie's memory are his stepdaughter Martha Wood and companion Steve Clark of Fall Branch, stepson David R. Wood, his wife Sandra of Colonial Heights; grandchildren K.C. Bartley, his wife Emily of Fall Branch, Carrie Glover, her husband Rob of Gray, Lucas Wood of Sullivan Gardens, Ryan Wood of Johnson City, great grandchildren Hailey and Taylor Bartley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004
A visitation for Eddie will be held Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 4:00 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd, Kingsport, Tennessee 37664. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 6:00 PM. A committal service with military honors will occur Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Home National Cemetery, 215 Heroes Drive, Mountain Home, TN 37684.
