Edward Amos Robbins, III May 15, 1959 - July 28, 2024

DUFFIELD, VA - Edward Amos Robbins III of Duffield, Virginia, known to his loved ones as Eddy, peacefully passed away on July 28, 2024, at Holston Valley Hospital at the age of 65. He was born on May 15, 1959, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to his father, the late Edward Amos Robbins Jr., and mother Betty Robbins Masters. He is preceded in death grandparents Edward and Nora D. Robbins, George C. and Buena Arwood, and father Edward Robbins Jr.

Edward's love for his family was immeasurable. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Debbie Robbins, with whom he shared many cherished memories. Edward was also a proud father to his daughters, Emilee Hone, Keriann Robinson, Sarah Robbins and stepdaughter Katie Burkhart Gooch. His adoration for his grandchildren, Tzadkreil, Skyreil Moon, Lily, Zeke, and Zaia, knew no bounds.

Edward's strong faith in God was at the core of his being. His integrity and kindness were evident to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his mother Betty Masters, his brother David, wife Robin, and their three daughters, Leanna, Logan, and Allison. He is also survived by his uncle Jack Arwood, Uncle Ben, and Aunt Phyllis Beasley, as well as numerous cherished cousins and friends.

Throughout his life, Edward had a profound impact on those around him. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines and Army Reserve. Edward joined the United States Marines Corps in 1981, completing Officers Candidates School and The Basic School in 1982 and then was designated a Naval Aviator after completing Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Florida in early 1984. He went on to fly the CH-53 Sea Stallion in New River, North Carolina for many years before returning to Flight School in Corpus Christi, Texas as an Instructor in the T-34C Mentor Airplane. He left the Marine Corps in September 1990 as a Captain.

Edward rejoined military service as a Chief Warrant Officer 2 with the Virginia Army National Guard in 1994 to 1995 as an Aeromedical Evacuation Pilot. He took a break but later rejoined the Virginia National Guard in 2008 as a Captain in the logistics and transportation fields. He commanded the 1032nd Transportation Company in Gate City Virginia before retiring as a Major in 2017.

Edward held FAA flight privileges as an Airline Transport Pilot, Multi-Engine Land and Commercial privileges in Airplane Single Engine Land and Sea, Rotorcraft-Helicopter as well as Instrument Helicopter. He was also a rated Certified Flight Instructor in Single Engine Land, Rotorcraft-Helicopter and Instrument Airplane and Helicopter.

Edward Amos Robbins III will be remembered as a dedicated Christian, a decorated veteran, and a loving family man. His legacy of selflessness, commitment, and compassion will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Eddy´s passing! He was a great guy and will be missed by many. We served together in the Marines, deployed together and for a bit he rented the apartment attached to my house in Richlands, NC.

By chance, I happened to come across Ed´s obituary. I´m so shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. My condolences to all his loved ones. Ed and I flew helicopters together in HMH-461. We did a med cruise together in 1986 with HMM-264. Ed was like a brother to me. He was one of my closest friends. We kept in touch on occasion but not as often as we should´ve. Lots of fond memories of good times. We even traveled together in Europe while our ship, USS Guam, was docked in Naples, Italy for repairs. Rest easy Marine. Hopefully we´ll meet again one day and have another one of those fine bottles of wine.

We just found out that Ed had passed. Our deepest condolences. I met Ed when we both went to OCS/TBS/Flight school/FMF, beginning in January 1982. He was a warrior, scholar and patriot. A frontline defender of the freedoms we all enjoy each day. The world was a better place with him in it. Until Valhalla my brother, until Valhalla.

I met Eddy when he became a member of the Scott County Life Saving Crew. Even before he became a Marine, Eddy was squared away. He was part of a tight-knit group some of us fondly referred to as "The Duffield Wrecking Crew." It seemed whenever they were on duty, the wildest and most difficult crashes and other emergencies would come in, and this group would handle them all with ease and professionalism. They were a fun group. I am very shocked and saddened to hear of Eddy's passing. I did not receive the news until after the services. It heartens me to see that over 40 years later, the other members of the Duffield Wrecking Crew served Eddy as honorary pallbearers! My sympathies to all of the family and friends who will miss this hero.

Eddy was a good friend. Shocked so much at his passing. We spent time at Quantico during the same period in 1982. He rescued me on the interstate when my car broke down enroute to Quantico one weekend. I´m going to miss him greatly.

Ed and I were very good friends. We went to the State Police Academy together. Rode home together on weekends. Flew Medflight II together. He would come to Virginia Beach and we would go to the restaurant, Dockside, and have the flounder sandwich. We talked all the time. I will miss him terribly.
