DUFFIELD, VA - Mable Irene (Kern) McDavid, 88, Duffield, VA passed away, Saturday, October 25, 2025, at NOVA Health and Rehab, Weber City, VA.
Irene was born on June 28, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Loring and Elva I. (Hill) Kern.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Grover Cecil McDavid, sisters, Mary Kerns, and Frances Kern preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Starnes, son, Wayne McDavid, grandchildren, Haley Lane and husband, Steve, Leslie Crawford and husband, Evan, great grandchildren, Lucas Lane and wife, Amanda Grace, Landon Lane and Lily Lane, Harrison Crawford, sisters, Margie Bostic and husband, Bennett, Kate Vicars, and Ethel Hensley and husband, Denny brother, Ralph Kern, special niece who was like a granddaughter, Angie Calhoun and husband, Michael, along with many other nieces and nephews, and special friends, Ronnie Davis, Johnny Davis, and Don and Sharon Rhoton.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Joe Hill officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the Kern Cemetery, Cloud High Road, Duffield VA.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday to go in procession to the Graveside Service.
The family would like to thank the staff of NOVA Health and Rehab for their love and care of Irene.

To Wayne and Nancy we say how sad we are of hearing Mabel passed away.She was such a wonderful friend to Darius' sister, Delma, and a great roommate, always keeping an eye on Delma to encourage her to eat and join in with others at the Puzzle Room! My, how you could put those puzzles together...you kept so active. Your sister, daughter and son were so good to you and visited many times while we were visiting Delma. Now you are both gone and enjoying yourselves. I'm just a little jealous...God bless the family
