KINGSPORT - James F. Hensley, age 94, of Kingsport, went home to be with his Heavenly Father and to reunite with his late son, David Hensley, on Monday, October 2, 2023, at his residence with his family gathered around him. He was a born-again child of God who made every effort to witness to others about the goodness of the Lord. He was a founding member of Daniel Boone Missionary Baptist Church and later attended Walnut Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. James was a farmer who enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He was also employed with AFG in Kingsport and later retired from Foote Mineral in Duffield, VA, after several years of service. Most of all, James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was blessed with a kind, generous and humble personality and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Hensley; parents, Thomas and Clara Hensley; siblings, Arthur Hensley (Minnie), Mary McDavid (Harold), Virginia McDavid (Audley), John P. Hensley (Grace), Kelly Hensley and Thomas Hensley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Hensley, of the home; daughter, Deborah Bishop (Harold); sons, Ricky Hensley and Johnny Hensley (Karen); grandchildren, Vicki Moody (Jerry), Hagan Hensley and Joshua Hensley; brother, Clint Hensley (Christine); sisters-in-law, Frances Hensley and Eva Hensley; several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for the love and support they have shown during this difficult time.
