DRYDEN, VA-Joseph Keith Lawson, 63, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Lee Health and Rehabilitation Center in Pennington Gap, Va.
He was born and raised in Exeter, Va. His family moved to Kingsport where he graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School. Joe was a coal miner and later a Federal Mine Inspector. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. He loved his pet shih tzu, "Bobo."
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Vickie Lynn (Goforth) Lawson; his parents, Vinard Jacob Lawson and Lula Beatrice (Needham) Lawson; siblings, Shirla Ackley, Debbie Cooke, John Lawson and Ninky McCarty.
Surviving are his son, Joey Lawson, Abingdon, Va.; daughter, Melissa Wilson, Abingdon, Va.; two grandchildren, Justin and Madalyn Wilson; brother, Jim Lawson (Lois), Richmond, Ky.; sister-in-law, Vickie Kilgore Lawson, Big Stone Gap; brothers-in-law, Jack McCarty, Big Stone Gap, Va. and Jack Cooke, Hilton Head, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to those who provided Joe with such wonderful care, love and support: Kara Burgan, Jack McCarty and the staff at Lee Health and Rehab.
Joe requested cremation and no services.
