Marla Odom Obituary

Marla Anne Odom

August 3, 1967 -

February 24, 2026

MOUNT CARMEL - Marla Anne Odom, age 58 of Mount Carmel, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Marla was born on August 3, 1967, in Kingsport to Brazilla and Betty Odom. Marla worked as a dietician at Holston Valley Medical Center, and she taught Sunday School for over 30 years at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. Marla graduated from ETSU and King College, where she received two master's degrees: one master's in nutrition and one in education.

Marla enjoyed her family time. She loved canning and studying martial arts, in which she obtained her black belt in Taekwondo and Kenpo Karate. She found solace in studying God's word every day of her life. She had a servant's heart, and she enjoyed blessing people with her canned goods and other baking goods.

Marla is preceded in death by her mother; and her niece, Ashley Block. Those left to cherish her memory are her father, Brazilla D. Odom; her sister, Teri Block and husband, Dr. Bill Block; nephew, Will Block and partner, Sara Roggenbuck; special lifelong friend, Mr. Chip Necessary; and many loving family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Shades of Grace in Kingsport, and/or Hilda's Box at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.

There will be a graveside service held at 9:00 am on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Pastor Todd Haley officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 8:50 am.

She was a lovely neighbor, she greeted both of us when we moved in next door with homemade apple butter. She will be missed, now she rests in peace

I knew Marla from church. She was such a sweet lady and a blessing to have around. She was always serving the church in some capacity, and she was a wonderful teacher that the kids loved. I know she is in heaven with the Lord and all the pains of this world are left behind.

Maria was one of the sweetest and kindest ladies I know. She loved children at the church and they loved her. We are all heartbroken about her passing. She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace sweet Marla.

I had Marla when she was in our high school Sunday School Class. OGBC had really grown and we were out of room in the church building, so we had Sunday School in the "old church bus". Bill would pull it up in front of the church and our class would happily get on that bus and learn about Jesus. Marla had mentioned this to me a year or so ago. She was always a positive influence to all on that bus or anywhere else she served. Her mother Betty and my mother Maysie shared a room at Wexford House Nursing home. I got to know Marla and Bree better during that time. I had Teri in Training Union Class when she was a teenager. This family, each one of them was special to me. I will definitely miss those good, loving hugs she gave me at church. I love you sweet lady, see you in Heaven!!Much Love, Brenda Philyaw

My first memory of Marla is her riding her unicycle up and down the hills of West Ridge. She was always smiling and friendly. Our hearts and prayers are with each of you!
