April 19, 2026

SURGOINSVILLE - Phillip Douglas Carr, age 78, of Surgoinsville, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026.

Phillip was a concrete finisher, having had his own business for many years. He was a born-again child of God and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith (Richardson) Carr.

Phillip is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Carr; three daughters, Frances Linkous, Lisa Gunter, Tina Dunn; five grandchildren, Leslie Linkous, Whitney Gunter, Jerome Gunter, Christian Dunn, and Jesse Dunn; several great grandchildren; as well as many dear friends, loved ones, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins who visited him during his illness. Phillip was always there for all of us, no matter what we were going through in our lives.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the nurses and individuals at The Waters in Allandale and at Church Hill Nursing Home who helped take good care of him during his illness.

Per Phillip's request there will be no formal services at this time. A celebration of Phillip's life will be held at a later date.
