Mary Evelyn Anderson McConnell

GATE CITY, VA - Mary Evelyn Anderson McConnell, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 1, 2025 while in the comfort of her own home after a lengthy period of declining health. She was born in the Boozy Creek community of Scott County on June 29, 1947 to the late Rhea and Elsie Baker Anderson. Mary was saved at an early age and was a lifelong and faithful member of Gardner's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie Anderson Taylor, Ethel Mae Anderson and an infant sister; brother, Joe E. Anderson; brothers-in-law, Kenneth McClain and Raymon Taylor.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Charles W. "Bill" McConnell; sons, Rhea E. McConnell (Amber) and Michael W. McConnell (Meghan); grandchildren, Blake, Anna, Cade, Kamryn and Haley McConnell; sister, Virginia McClain; brothers, Robert Anderson (Dorothy), Kermit Anderson (Bobbi), Wayne Anderson (Donna), Billy Jack Anderson; brother-in-law, Jim McConnell (Gail); sister-in-law, Luann Anderson; special niece, Margaret T. Baxter; special nephews, David and Douglas McClain; along with several additional nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Gardner's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, 2505 Boozy Creek, Bristol, VA 24202 with Pastor Josh Johnson and Rev. Rex McMurray officiating. Mary will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery.

David McClain, Douglas McClain, Jonathan Anderson, Dr. David Redwine, Danny Salley, David Paul McClain, Rob Olinger, Bradley Baxter, Dusty Clark, Johnny Redwine and Gary Lloyd will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Gardner's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of NHC in Kingsport, TN for their love and wonderful care.
