KINGSPORT - Samantha Jane Gibson Carruba, of Kingsport passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Ballad Hospice House in Bristol. She was born on October 11, 1935, in the Wood Community of Scott County, VA to the late Mosco Conrad Gibson and Rosa Ann Gibson.
Samantha attended public school in Scott County and graduated from Dungannon High School. She retired from Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital after 22 years of service as a secretary in the Cardiac Step-Down Unit. Samantha was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Kingsport, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 55 years, Tony Carruba; son, Charles "Chuck" Carruba; two sisters; five brothers. Samantha is survived by her son Anthony (Janet) Carruba of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer Black, Laura Carruba, Amanda Carruba, and Jonathon Carruba; step grandchild; James Culbertson; three great-grandchildren, Wesley Black, Charlotte Black, and Annabelle Black; sister, Ada (Tom) Darnell; daughter-in-law, Paula Socha; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Kingsport. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Holston View Cemetery with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in her honor.
