KINGSPORT - Tommy Edward "ET" Ezell, 80, of Kingsport passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023. ET was born on October 16, 1943 to David and Ada Ezell in McHenry, Kentucky. As a junior in high school, he left to join the US Navy. He finished his education on board the USS Kaskaskia and had a successful military career as a naval radioman, serving proudly during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He met the love of his life, Velma Harris Ezell, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and they married on July 5, 1964, after a whirlwind, fairytale romance. In July of 2024 they would have celebrated 60 years.
To all who knew him, ET had a reputation as a skillful salesman, a lover of music, and a gifted musician, artist and poet. He lived his life looking for ways to bless others with his talents. He was a patriot to his core and would stand for what was right even if he stood alone.
ET is predeceased by his parents Ada and David Ezell; brothers Clay and Bill; and sister Hattie. He is survived by his loving wife Velma, their only child Misty Ezell, and her boys Jim Isaacs (Amber) and Riley Isaacs – his only grandchildren whom he adored. He will also be greatly missed by his devoted brother David Ezell, his wife Retha, and numerous treasured nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Chapel on Monday, October 30. Gathering of friends and family will be at 11:00 am. Service and burial will immediately follow. The family is being served by Kingsport First Assembly, where ET and his family attend.
