Clifford Darrel Robinette

January 4, 2025

BLACKWATER, VA - Clifford Darrel Robinette, 86, of Blackwater, VA, went to Heaven in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Norton Community Hospital, with declining heart problems.

He was born in Kingsport, TN on September 13, 1938 where he lived and attended Lincoln Memorial and Civic Auditorium Schools and Calvary Baptist Church. He moved to the Robinette Farm in Blackwater, VA in 1949. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1955.

Darrel was a US Army Veteran who was stationed in Hawaii. He later attended Wise County Vocational School where he trained to be a machinist. He had worked for Foote Mineral, Eastman Chemical, Hawkins County Press and retired from Norris Industries in Duffield, VA after 23 years.

Darrel loved playing Bluegrass Music. He was a very talented Banjo player as well as the Mandolin. He played with the Lee County Ramblers for 7 years. He also played with the Powell Mountain Boys, later the Powell Mountain Boys and Helen, as well as other groups and pickers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hagan and Selma (Bloomer) Robinette, four aunts and two uncles.

Darrel leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Helen Robinette; step-son, Wayne Osborne; aunt, Marcella Frazier; sister and brother-in-law, Lois Ann and Ray Adams, Sherman and Marcella Osborne; and many cousins, friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, at Robinette Funeral Home in Blackwater. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Glen Hurd officiating. Private burial will be held in the Robinette-Bloomer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to your local church.

I worked about ten years with Darrell at Norris in the 70s. Or "Big D" as most called him. He was well respected for his machining skills as well as being a thoughtful, helpful person.
