Johnnie Earlene Horton Hagood, 79, passed away at her home on April 4, 2026.

Johnnie was a lifelong Hawkins County resident. She attended Church Hill High School and graduated from East Tennessee State University. Johnnie worked as a labor and delivery nurse at HVMC for decades, where she made countless valuable friendships.

Johnnie was an active member of RCGUMC throughout her life and often served as the pianist. Her church family was special to her.

Johnnie was the fierce matriarch of her three-generational family, who all shared one beautiful piece of land. She is the heart of several traditions and recipes, and she inspired a lifetime worth of stories to tell. Johnnie's love and support for her family were unwavering, and they will forever cherish her legacy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hagood; son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Michelle Hagood; grandson, Corey Hagood; parents, Earl and Hattie Marie Horton; baby brother, Billy Joe Horton; best friend, Doris Housewright; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Amye Hagood Smith; sisters, Susie Charlton and Janie Kincheloe (Gerald); grandchildren, Casey Hagood (Jessie), Kenzie Hagood (Seth), Gracie-Raye Hagood Smith (DeLo), Keylee Botkin, and Noah Botkin (Haley); honorary grandson, John Phipps; great-grandchildren, Myles Carpenter, River Rain Hagood, Cooper Lane, and Swayzi Ravenell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will gather at Ross Campground United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 9, from 5-7 p.m., for a celebration of Johnnie's life. All are welcome to attend.
