Mr. Daryl Gene Hyder, Sr., age 95, Kingsport, passed away August 24, 2025.
Mr. Hyder was born at home on Carson Creek in Washington County, Tennessee on April 9, 1930, the son of William Joseph and Mary Pearl Williams Hyder.
He was a graduate of Iowa City High and East Tennessee State College. Mr. Hyder was employed by Holston Defense for a short time and then served in the Army in Germany. He married Pansy Mae Barry on March 3, 1951. The Hyders resided in Kingsport for over 70 years. He was a successful businessman including being owner and operator of Market Street Furniture, Koin Kleen laundromats, and Yamaha Cycle Center. He was persuaded to retire at age 84. Mr. Hyder and his wife were able to travel worldwide for business, and he enjoyed oil painting.
Mr. Hyder was the last surviving charter member of Colonial Heights Christian Church; and served as an elder, choir member, and Sunday School teacher for many years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hyder was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Pansy Barry; eight sisters, Maxie Ipsen, Reta Painter, Lucille "Cindy" Chapman, Grace Rowe, June Hyder, Dorothy "Dot" Sherfey, Mary Wampler, and Elizabeth "Timmie" Rowan; and three brothers, Beryl, Rex and Harry Hyder.
He is survived by four children, Martha Hyder Hall (David), Daryl Hyder, Jr. (Rebecca), Mary Hyder (Kevin), and Rebecca Smith; six grandchildren, Summer Johnson, Seth Hyder, Brett Hyder, Brittany Manning, Paul Smith, and Raelyn Hyder; four step-grandchildren, Sarah Perrigan, Joseph Perrigan, Hanna Hayes, and Sam Perrigan; several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Colonial Heights Christian Church, Kingsport, with Ministers Dave Mullins and Brett Hyder officiating on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Minister Roy Lawson will give a special video remembrance. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment Services will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Brett Hyder, Seth Hyder, Paul Smith, Daryl Hyder, Jr., Kevin Upchurch, and David Hall. Honorary Pallbearers include nephews, Lee Wampler, Patrick Rowan, Joe Hyder, Steve Hyder, Beryl Wayne Hyder, and Gary Rowe.
