BLUFF CITY - Emerson Lee Poe, 88, of Bluff City, TN passed away on Sunday, Mat 25th 2025, at home. Emerson was born on June 10, 1936, to W. A. Poe and Mattie Bear Poe of Kingsport, TN.

After attending Sullivan High School, he went on to graduate from Hiwassee College in Madisonville, TN. Emerson was employed for 37 years with Eastman Chemical Company. In 1980 he met Nancy Sharpe, and they married in 1981.

Emerson was a highly regarded high school and college multi-sport athlete. That love of sports continued through many years playing in Eastman leagues. He loved collecting Native American artifacts, faming, gardening, designing, and building furniture, and woodturning. Emerson had an innate desire for learning and creativity that never stopped.

Emerson was preceded in death by his parents W. A. and Mattie, and his brother Bill. He is survived by Nancy and three children. Daughter Elizabeth Scott Poe, son David Michael Poe and his wife Debbie, daughter Sarah Poe-Witt and husband Tim. Grandchildren Jessica, Sarah, Caitie, Brock, Ethan, Rachael, Riley, Meredith, Avery, India, and 5 great grandchildren.

A private celebration of Emerson's life will be held at a later date. Please send any memorials to Pine Ridge Baptist Church, P.O. Box 77, Batesland, SD 57716. Pine Ridge Baptist Church serves the Oglala Sioux of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
