Johnny Wexler Obituary

Johnny "John" Michael Wexler

July 22, 1950 -

July 11, 2025

KINGSPORT - Johnny "John" Michael Wexler, 74, of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, after a brief illness resulting from complications due to a stroke.

Born July 22, 1950, in Greeneville, Tennessee, John graduated from Greeneville High School before answering the call to serve in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Vietnam War veteran, wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice.

Following his military service, John spent many years working as a rollback driver for Jerry's Used Cars & Parts in his hometown. In the early 1980s, he moved to Kingsport, where he would spend the remainder of his life. A gifted mechanic, John had a special talent for restoring or fixing cars, and could often be found with a tool in hand and a project underway. He was also an avid fisherman, spending countless peaceful nights on the water with his close friends Conley, Junior, and Gene. Whether at a yard sale or the local flea market, John loved the simple pleasures of life and rarely passed up a good deal or a friendly chat.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Roxie Wexler of Greeneville, Tennessee.

He is survived by his devoted life partner of 27 years, Susan Kitchings of Kingsport, TN; his children, Sonya Wexler Bowers (Mike) of Greeneville, Tennessee, Michael Wexler (Becky) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Kristy Wexler of Greeneville, Tennessee; his brother Terry Wexler (Claudia) of Kingsport, Tennessee; and his cherished grandchildren across Tennessee- Luke Keasling (Kristen), Ashlynn Pierce (Austin), Olivia Wexler, Paige Wexler, and Taylor Craft. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Raylynn and Riley Keasling, nephews Ben and Brian Wexler, and his loyal dog, Zippo.

Though John didn't seek the spotlight, the love he gave so freely left a lasting impact. He will be deeply missed and remembered with affection and gratitude by all who knew him.

There will be no formal services, per his wishes.
