KINGSPORT - Larry Lee Dolen of Kingsport passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 9, 1940 in Kingsport, Larry graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and earned a degree in business at Steed College. Larry married the love of his life Jackie, in 1960 and they celebrated 65 years of marriage this year. He served his country in the United States Army and retired from the Kingsport Paper Mill following 40 years of service. Larry was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport, serving as a Deacon as well as serving as Chairman of the Usher committee. He also served in the Kingsport Community with United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Civitan Club and the Board of Directors for AFCU, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Kingsport Hay House and was an officer in the Model City Coin Club. He also served as a Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gertrude Dolen; and brother, Bill Dolen.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie (Shipley) Dolen; two daughters, Sherry (Bob) Grygotis and Teresa (Alan) Meade; son, Michael Dolen; grandchildren, Rachel Waldroff, Chelsea Wollaber, Andrew Meade, Chandler Meade, Sarah Lawson, Jack Grygotis and Alex Grygotis; great-grandchildren, Madeline Waldroff, Aria Wollaber, Dani Wollaber, Jaycee Lawson and Lennon Lawson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church-Atrium in Kingsport. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in honor of Larry Lee Dolen to Holston Habitat for Humanity, 100 Greenwood Lane, Kingsport, TN 37663 or First Baptist Church of Kingsport, 200 W. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
