KINGSPORT - Marietta Thomas Stallard, 70 years of age of Kingsport, TN, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at her home with her family by her side. Born September 3, 1953, in Grundy, VA, she was the daughter of the late Dewey David and Etta Viregale Thomas.
For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we died to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. Romans 14:8
Marietta was a member of the First Church of God in Wise, VA, attended Southwest Virginia Community College, and continued her education at the UVA Wise college, where she graduated in 1977 with her K-8 Bachelor of Education degree. She loved poetry, reading, was avid artist, and enjoyed listening to religious music. Marietta was always thinking of others and was a supporter of the St. Jude Children's Hospital and TBN Network. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gary Lowell Stallard, sister Geraldine "Jerri" Crocker, and brother David Dewey Thomas, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter Melanie Dawn Davis and husband Clay D. Davis of Kingsport, TN; son Lee Garrett Stallard of Kingsport, TN; sister Shelby Jean Thomas of Middleton, OH; brother Danny Ray Hutchinson Thomas of Abingdon, VA.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Alexander "Dane" Sullins, Katie Nicole Davis, Joseph Dylan Davis, and Anayla Mae Davis, aunts Ruth Hutchinson and Carol Hutchinson, her cousin, who was like a sister to her, and best friend Rhonda Kay McClanahan and her sweet husband Danny, special nieces Melissa Hill, Autumn Hutchinson, and Jennifer Marcum, as well as, several other nieces and nephews, and her sister in Christ MaryKay Steffey, husband Tim, and their daughter Kayla Steffey Bates.
Funeral service for Marietta Stallard were held at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel of Grundy, VA, Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Tim Steffey officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.
Active pallbearers will be Dane Sullins, Lee Stallard, Clay D. Davis, Danny McClanahan, Danny Hutchinson, and Jeffrey Hutchinson.
