Ruby L. Holcomb, born April 3rd, 1941, loving daughter, wife, mother, aunt and friend, has gone to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday October 5th, 2025.
A resident of Hampton VA, Ruby was born in Widen WV. and subsequently resided in Sutton WV, Charleston WV, Williamsburg VA., and Surry VA.
Ruby’s professional career began as a bank teller for Williamsburg Savings and Loan. As she progressed in her work, she became a Consumer Loan Officer for Old Colony Bank and later with Crestar Financial Corporation. Under Crestar, she became the Vice President of a local Virginia branch. Crestar later became SunTrust Banks and Ruby continued in these roles under this new ownership until her retirement.
Ruby enjoyed many interests in her life. Among these are reading Louis L’Amour western books, Bluegrass music, spending time in Nature with horseback riding, hiking, fishing, canoeing, and enjoying the American Southwest with visits at her sister Doris Patton’s home in Arizona.
Ruby cherished her Christian Faith which was demonstrated by living and sharing the council given to her from the Holy Scriptures.
Ruby also greatly cherished her family all through her life. Ruby went beyond the parental call of duty to bring about a loving, caring, safe home, with continued financial support for her children Roger and Rhonda Rapp, which continues for their families today.
We are all blessed by having known Ruby Lee Holcomb and will treasure our memories of her always.
Ruby is survived by her son, Roger Rapp of Lenexa, VA and sister, Doris Patton of Anthem AZ. Family who continue to cherish her memory are grandson, Daniel Rapp; granddaughters, Ashley Rapp and Krystal Rapp; grandson, Brandon Flowers; nieces, Susan Friend, Paula Gustafson, Kelli Arrington, and Myra Brandenburg; and six great grandchildren.
Family who preceded her in death are her mother, Gertrude Hamric Holcomb; her father, Herbert Stanton Holcomb; her sister, Merida Friend; and her daughter, Rhonda Rapp-Flowers.

My deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Ruby at Old Point National Bank and truly enjoyed my conversations with her. She was a kind soul and loved her family deeply.
